All went well with the sail repair, but keeping our eye on Hurricane Fabian, we decided to stay in Gloucester through Saturday to wait out the effects of the hurricane that brought 10 to 12 foot seas with strong gusty winds.

Friday Sept. 5th - Boston

The weather was not to keep us from discovering history!  We drove into Boston and walked the Freedom Trail, that includes many historical sites, visited Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market.

The visit tied in well with Monica’s history and literature curriculum as she is currently studying the American Revolution and reading the novel, Johnny Tremain, by Esther Forbes.  She was able to relate much of what she has been studying as it came to life for her seeing the buildings and reading the accounts of the historical events.  The highlight of Monica’s trip to Boston was a make-over she received at the Avon promotional booth that was camped out at Quincy Market.  Monica’s enthusiasm for her studies only goes so far.  Photos of boston

We left Gloucester Sunday morning headed for Sandwich, MA.

Sandwich, MA – Sunday Sep 7
We got an early start from Gloucester to make our way to Sandwich, MA, which happens to be the town that hosts a marina at the eastern end of the Cape Cod Canal.  We had decided to stay here and catch a favorable tide through the canal on Monday morning.  The sail to Sandwich was a good one, with winds out of the northwest.  We arrived in Sandwich late that afternoon and turned in early in anticipation for a long haul to Jamestown, RI on Monday.
