| Sunday June 29 – Delaware Bay Another early start as we pulled the anchor at 6:45 a.m. hoping to get in a good day, and perhaps take on the Delaware Bay if conditions were right. We moved at 8.5 knots through the Chesapeake/Delaware Canal as we had the wind and tide with us – big time! Since we were making such great time we decided to go for it and take on the Delaware Bay, Tony’s least favorite body of water. The forecast was not looking great for the next several days, not improving from what it was, winds from the south east. Since we needed to travel down the Delaware Bay to Cape May, NJ in a southeasterly direction, this was not ideal. We entered the Delaware Bay at 9:00 a.m. and spent the next 11 hours fighting wind, current, and wavers! At 8:00 p.m. we finally entered the Cape May Canal – a 3.5 mile entrance into Cape May Harbor, to the city of Cape May, NJ. We were relieved to be off the Delaware Bay and in calmer waters. |
